We are delighted to announce that the Irish American Civil War Trail Logo has been completed. We are grateful to artist Sara Nylund who designed and created the image. Her brief was to represent all those from the island of Ireland who were caught up in the American Civil War, be they from the Northern or Southern States. The Maid of Erin Harp was selected as the central image, as this was a popular Irish symbol of the period, appearing on the flags of a number of Union and Confederate Irish units. The harp has 32 strings, one to represent each county in Ireland. The wreath of shamrocks is another key motif of the mid-nineteenth century, and these have been represented in blue and grey to signify the Union and Confederacy. We hope you like the logo- it is hoped that as our efforts to make this trail a reality gather pace that we will see a lot more of it around the country!
